Hello
My name is Seojin Park and I am a high school student living in South Korea. I am very interested in art and history, and particularly Korean culture due to my curiosity and lack of knowledge despite my heritage. With this website, I hope to allow other students to learn more about the Joseon Dynasty, also known as the Korean Renaissance, as it is not very well known, especially in other countries. It was very eye-opening and fascinating for me to research and learn more about Korean history and art, and I hope others will also be able to find out more about Korean culture!
Artist Statement
How much do people value their memories and the past? And why are memories so important to us? These are the questions I wanted to ask the audience when I started to create my artworks. I believe that mixing the past and the present conveys the mixed, bittersweet emotions people feel when thinking of a time period that is not their own. I wanted to reveal my relationship with time through various mediums and concepts, which is the main reason for my motivation to create art. The main way I convey this is by painting with different mediums and writing stories that link to my artworks. Overall, I would consider myself to be a detailed painter, a person who wants to capture and recreate moments. Before moving to Korea a few years ago, I lived in the US for the majority of my life. Because of this shift in my life, I have always wanted to capture my past memories in the US to remember the calmness and natural atmosphere of the places I once lived. The difference between living in a calm suburban neighborhood in Georgia compared to the busy streets in Seoul has made me reminisce about the tranquil and still atmosphere of the past. By remembering these moments, I was able to keep going when life became too hectic or stressful. The bittersweet nostalgia when reminiscing about the past has provided an odd feeling of stillness and solace, playing a significant role in my present-day life.
