Created by Korean artist Sin Yun Bok (Hyewon)

Scenery on Dano Day is a painting by Joseon painter Sin Yun Bok. The main theme of this painting, Dano Day, was one of 4 big events in the lunar calendar in Korea, which marked the beginning of summer. In this particular painting, there are several gisaeng entertainers by a mountain stream, which was frequently painted by Sin Yun Bok. Throughout the image, there are several aspects of Dano Day, as well as traditional rituals carried out on Dano Day. Since this particular day was said to have positive yang energy, which brought good luck and chased away evil spirits, there are certain elements like gunguni flowers and the color red which were both thought to repel evil spirits. The painting also shows the entertainers on a swing, which is one of the most popular customs of Dano Day. Overall, this painting depicts one of the most important and celebrated Korean holidays during the Joseon Dynasty, influencing the way we view history today.
